Whilst primarily a painter, I also undertake a wide variety of illustrative work.
J’habite et travaille en France et j’expose ici et en Angleterre. Je suis principalement artiste peintre mais également illustrateur.
For many years I have been exploring that visual world which exists between the representational and the abstract. My initial stimulus is always a reaction to an experience of the real world - places, objects, landscapes that I have seen - often simple, missable things to which I am drawn just because of their relative insignificance. In exploring them visually, often by dismembering them, regrouping them with other disparate images, dislocating them in some way - but hopefully never losing their essential visual identity - I try to arrive at a point where those more abstract painterly elements of shape, pattern, colour, tonality, begin to assert themselves equally with the subject of the work. In this sense I seek to create some kind of dynamic between the point of recognition of the ‘subject’ of the piece, and the process of invention which articulates my ongoing interest in it and the process I'm taking it through.
The look or style of the work evolves and adapts to the subject with which I'm dealing, but essentially my interests have remained the same and those shifts in superficial appearance have rather been the result of a continuing refinement of process and technique.
Depuis plusieurs années j’explore le monde visuel pour trouver le lien qui existe entre le figuratif et l’abstrait. Mon inspiration première est toujours une réaction face à ma perception du monde réel que je vois (par exemple : les objets, les paysages, personnages…). Il s’agit souvent de choses simples, modestes, par lesquelles je suis attiré en raison précisément de leur relative insignifiance. En les explorant visuellement, les déstructurant souvent, les regroupant parfois avec d’autres images disparates afin de les disloquer… sans toutefois leur faire perdre leur identité visuelle. Je m’efforce d’arriver au moment où les éléments les plus abstraits, les plus expressifs - tels la forme, le motif, la couleur, la tonalité…- commencent à exister par eux-mêmes tout en étant en symbiose avec le sujet du tableau. Ainsi, je cherche à créer une dynamique entre la perception de l'objet lui-même et mon processus de création.
Le style de mes oeuvres évolue en fonction des situations dans lesquelles je me trouve, mes centres d’intérêt demeurent cependant identiques. En effet, les changements en apparence superficiels resultent d'une recherche constante dans ma pratique.
